Hi there — I’m Alia, the human behind Alpenrose Studio.

I am an architect turned product designer, and enjoy working at the intersection of design, research, and strategy — building strong and adaptable design organizations along the way.

I have spent the last 4+ years with Google, and before that worked with brands like Gaia, ESRI, Uber, Muse, AltExchange, Copper Mountain, and other emerging start ups. I have designed across the gamut of digital devices - from iOS and Android mobile, tablets, and web apps, to multiple TV platforms and smart watches, while building and managing their robust design systems.

Strategic cross functional workshops are where I thrive, and thoroughly enjoying bringing everyone together to define problems, and reverse engineer big visions to roadmap scalable design iterations. Along with my core team at Google I am also a Google Sprint Lead, supporting teams through planning and facilitation, while also collaborating with global design leaders to explore, create, and test new methodologies for problem solving (you can check out the latest thinking here).

The way I see it, product design is the practice of a creative approach to problem solving and finding patterns that start with people and their needs. I believe design is only as powerful as the intentions behind it, and this work teaches me to understand both people and the world more deeply and realistically. I strive to find balance between beauty and utility, refining a sense of when to be curious and when to be decisive, and surrounding myself with people who don’t take themselves too seriously and can continue to teach me things I don’t know.

Having spent most of my life growing and learning in the Rocky Mountains, you can usually find me on the snow, kicking up dirt, or floating on the water.
